Located in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, Malta is one of Europe's most accessible island destinations. Despite its compact size, the island offers a diverse mix of historic cities, beaches, nightlife and cultural landmarks, all within short travelling distances.
Malta International Airport (MLA) is the island's only airport and serves direct flights from major cities across Europe and beyond. From the airport, most accommodation areas and festival venues can be reached within 15 to 30 minutes by taxi, ride-sharing service or rental car.
Malta can also be reached by ferry from Sicily, Italy. Regular ferry services operate between Pozzallo and Valletta, making it an easy option for visitors travelling through Southern Europe.
Malta drives on the left-hand side of the road. Seatbelts are mandatory for all passengers. Speed limits are generally 50 km/h in urban areas and up to 80 km/h on major roads unless otherwise indicated. Parking can be limited in busy areas, especially around popular nightlife and tourist locations. Malta uses Type G electrical plugs (the same as the United Kingdom). The emergency number for police, ambulance and fire services is 112.
The ride-sharing service Bolt is widely available throughout Malta and is often the quickest way to travel between accommodation, venues and tourist attractions.
Licensed taxis operate across the island and can be found at designated taxi ranks or booked through local providers. Always confirm the fare or booking method before starting your journey.
Malta's public bus network connects most major towns, beaches and entertainment areas. Buses are an affordable way to explore the island during your stay.
